Oct 15th, 2009 | By Simon Butler | Isle of Wight News From The Island Pulse

A new dance craze and a fun way for children to get fit will soon be available on the Isle of Wight as part of a new course.

‘Zumbatomic’ is a dance-fitness programme that has been exclusively designed for children aged 8 – 13.

It features music from all kinds of cultures including Latin, hip-hop, salsa, samba and merengue.

It also contains more obscure music such as reggaton, which is a form of Latin American urban music, and cumbia, a Colombian musical style and folk dance.

The sessions are led by fully trained Zumba instructor Helen Baker.

Organised by Isle of Wight Council’s Sports Unit and funded through Sport England, a seven week course will begin on Monday 2 November at Downside Middle School from 1600 – 1700.

The course will be held every subsequent Monday at the same time and costs £10.

All places must be booked in advance through the Sports Unit via sports.unit@iow.gov.uk or over the phone on (01983) 823818
