Yarmouth RNLI Assist Sailors in Distress

The skipper of the 9 metre yacht ‘NYREE’ from Bedford contacted Solent Coastguard to say they were in difficulties. After beginning their journey from Hythe Marina – near Southampton – bound for Poole, their engine had failed as the yacht was passing through the Needles Channel in poor sea conditions.

The owner’s wife on board had earlier suffered from a heart complaint was now feeling very unwell and distressed

The Yarmouth RNLI all weather lifeboat was turned out and, just after 6.00 pm this evening, members of the lifeboat crew were on board assisting the skipper.  An ambulance had been called to meet the returning lifeboat which, by now, was carrying both the skipper and his poorly 56 year old wife. The crew of the lifeboat brought the yacht back to Yarmouth.

The Needles Coastguard Team were on hand to meet the returning lifeboat and to assist in landing the casualty ashore.
