Witness Appeal After Man Dies In Car

At about 3.54pm Monday, October 26th, John Rhodes, 77, of The Fairway, Sandown, was driving a grey Mercedes A160 from St Helen’s towards Brading on the B3330 Carpenters Road. As he neared Rowborough corner, Mr Rhodes’ car slowed and veered off the road, where a wing mirror collided with a hedge before stopping. No other vehicles were involved.
All emergency services attended, but Mr Rhodes died at the scene. Police are investigating the possibility that he suffered a medical episode at the wheel.
Officers from the Shanklin Roads Policing Unit want to hear from anyone who saw the car being driven between St Helen’s and Rowborough corner or who witnessed the incident.
