Wild West Solent Swim

Up to fifty swimmers will be leaping into the water at Hurst Castle on the 24th September and swimming to Colwell Bay on the Isle of Wight, all in aid of West Wight Sports Centre.

Update: Due to weather Wild West Solent Swim postponed until Saturday 24th September 2011.

The ‘Wild West Solent Swim’ has been organised by West Wight Sports Centre Trust – the charity that runs West Wight Sports Centre in Freshwater, Isle of Wight. The future of the community sports centre is under threat because of possible reductions in local government funding. Trustees and staff have organised the swim to raise badly needed funds for the charity as well as setting their users a fitness challenge.

The 50 swimmers have been training both in the pool at the Centre and on the beaches around the West Wight. They will be accompanied by 30 kayakers, a number of ribs and safety boats as well as both the Freshwater Lifeboat vessels. All-in-all it will be quite a spectacle and never before have so many people crossed in one go.

We’re counting down to the big day – when 50 of our supporters will be swimming across the Solent to raise funds for the charity that runs West Wight Sports Centre.
