1st November 2009: Barely Born Appeal Concert March In Time: Wight Diamonds and the Hampshire Constabulary Band are staging a concert in Cowes Yacht Haven to raise funds for the Islands Barely Born Appeal. More details from the Island Pulse here:
1st November 2009: Nurit Yardeni A Dream of Fair Women exhibition at Dimbola Lodge Museum.
2nd November 2009: Wessex Cancer Trust, IW Group, Grand Christmas Fayre at Freshwater Bay House (the Holiday Fellowship), 10am-2pm. Admission £1 to include refreshments. All proceeds to the Cancer Trust.
2nd November 2009: IW Family History Society Talk by Robin McInnes, ‘Development of the Island in the 18th Century’ at The Riverside Centre, Newport, 7pm.
2nd November 2009: Anne Frank: A History For Today exhibition at Brading Roman Villa.
2nd November 2009: Zumbatomic dance-fitness programme The sessions are led by fully trained Zumba instructor Helen Baker and funded through Sport England, a seven week course will begin at Downside Middle School from 1600 – 1700.
4th November 2009: ‘Opportunities Day’ At Ventnor Botanic Garden Anyone looking for advice on how to get involved in full time paid or voluntary work on the Isle of Wight can find lots of information between 1030 – 1530.
5th November 2009: Guy Fawkes Night with music, guy competition, entertainment, wine and chestnuts, torch-lit parade and fireworks, in Yarmouth Town Square, from 6pm.
5th November 2009: Sandown Carnival Celebration, A Carnival Parade around the town led by the Sandown Carnival Queens, featuring music, floats, magnificent costumes & lanterns, all lit with thousands of lights, finishing with music & a spectacular firework finale starting from Culver Parade, Sandown.
5th November 2009: IW Festival of Remembrance with the Wight Diamonds Marching Band, the Festival Band and the Vectis Corps of Drums and The Salvation Army Band. At Ryde Theatre, 7.30pm.
5th November 2009: Isle of Wight User & Carer Reference Group. First meeting between 12:30 and 14:30 in the seminar room at Quay Arts in Newport.
6th November-10th January 2010: Solent Degree Show ‘The Graduate Show’ This Show will consist of work from a number and range of courses from within the Faculty of Media, Arts & Society, including Fine Art, Photography & Illustration. 6th November 2009: Music concert featuring Folk singer Deborah Hodgson, accompanied on guitar by Frank Moon. Deborah appeared in the Big Top at the Isle of Wight Festival this year, while Frank is also returning after his very successful appearance playing guitar for the Mediaeval Baebes at their concert at All Saints Church, Ryde in August. 6th November 2009: Talbot House: A Home from Home, written by Peter Gill this play is aimed at a family audience. At Medina Theatre, Newport, 7.30pm. Tickets £10.
7th November 2009: Internationally renowned British bear artists will be visiting Koko’s Bear Shop in Ryde for a signing event on Saturday 7th November. Funds raised at the event will be donated to the local Barely Born Appeal at St Mary’s Hospital. Christine Pike and Suzi James will be making rare guest appearances to meet and greet the arctophiles of the Isle of Wight, from 11am-3pm, and will each be bringing with them an exclusive collection of bears, made especially for Koko’s, to sell on the day. 7th – 8th November 2009: Island Photo Show: The Island Photo Centre opens the doors to its annual photographic extravaganza at Ryde Castle Hotel. The Island Photo Centre (ipc) are pulling out all the stops and are calling on photographers from the Isle of Wight and beyond, to visit as the entire weekend, is FREE and dedicated to all your photographic needs. 9th November 2009: Isle of Wight Annual Conference For Sports Clubs and Individuals. The event that aims to show Isle of Wight Sports Clubs and individuals how to prosper and succeed. Organised by Isle of Wight Council’s Sports Unit, the Isle of Wight Community Sports Club Conference is being held at St George’s Park, Newport on Monday 9 November between 1830 – 2100. 10th November 2009 to 3rd January 2010: Karen Taggart ‘Colour Sings’ at Dimbola. Watercolour with its unpredictability and flow is what excites the artist and Karen likes to suggest a scene and capture the atmosphere rather than make an exact copy.
10th November 2009: Renowned Wildlife & Nature Photographer George MacCarthy will be visiting Sandown & Shanklin District Camera Club to take photographers on a journey of his trip across America. 11th – 12th November 2009: British Cod Championships 2009: This popular event, attracts top prize money with £1,000 for the person catching the heaviest cod each day, and £1,000 for the person who catches the most cod over two days. The format will remain the same as in previous year’s which includes fishing out from Yarmouth Quay and at the end of each day a weigh-in, will decide the winners. More from the Island Pulse here.. 11th – 12th – 13th November 2009: BBC Blast On The Isle of Wight Creative young people aged 13 -19 will be able to unleash their imagination in a series of free workshops run by BBC Blast in Newport. More news from the Island Pulse here:
12th November 2009: Eco-Event For Isle of Wight Schools: Island schools are being urged to attend an event, which will showcase Northwood primary school and others who have achieved excellent results in environmental awareness and actions, to encourage others to ‘go green’. The Eco-Event will take place on Thursday 12th November at Northwood School from 3pm until 5pm. It will feature a guided tour of the grounds and an innovative ‘Eco-market’ – with stalls staffed by experts covering the eight sustainable schools ‘doorways.’ More news from the Island Pulse here:

Isle of Pink Quiz Night, Newport FC Friday 13 November

14th November 2009: Isle of Wight Poetry Centenary Final Celebratory Event At Quay Arts. Announcement of poetry competition winners and prize-giving, readings, close of centenary year, Quay Arts ,Newport, 3-6 pm
14th November 2009: The second pond to be managed as part of Pond Life On Wight will be in Seaclose Park, Newport, on Saturday 14th November from 10am until noon. This work is being carried out with the support of Newport Parish Council, who brought the pond to the attention of the Footprint Trust last year. Local parish councillor Jackie Hawkins was concerned about litter in the pond and the invasive plant. 23rd – 30th November 2009: East Cowes Heritage 150th Anniversary of the Floating Bridge Exhibition at The Heritage Centre, East Cowes, 10am-1pm, also Wednesday afternoon, 2pm-4pm. Admission free, donations appreciated. 150 years of the floating bridge. This year sees Cowes floating bridge celebrate its 150th anniversary. The year 2009 also marks the centenary of the fourth floating bridge, commissioned from boatbuilder White’s for £3,200.
