Watch Olympic Torch At Needles Park

The chairlift at The Needles Park on the Isle of Wight has been chosen by Olympics organisers as one of 20 iconic UK locations for the Olympic torch to be borne.

Spectators can cheer on the torch as it passes through the Needles Park site on Saturday 14th July and enjoy a fun, sports themed day packed with competitions, prizes and giveaways.

The Needles Park General Manager Marino Zanti said

‘It is such a great honour to be chosen to host the torch for part of its journey across the UK. For the Needles Park be considered one of the UK’stop destinations by LOCOG is recognition of how iconic the chairlift and needles are, with intense media interest, we will undoubtedly be watched by the world as the torch makes its way down the chairlift’.

IW residents will be able to get free parking on the day on presentation of a voucher and proof of Island residence (utility bill or photo ID with address on).

Needles Park Marketing Manager Charlotte Denman-Johnson adds ‘although we will have an increased capacity for vehicles on the 14th July, we are expecting to reach, and possibly exceed capacity on the day. We would advise visitors wishing to see the torch to arrive as early as possible as we can notguarantee parking or even vehicular access past 12 noon. We would strongly advise public to arrive as early as possible to avoid disappointment’.
