Isle of Wight Council will host a decision night for the 5 wind turbine proposal at Cowes Yacht Haven on the 16th July 2012 at 6pm.
Up to 500 people are expected to attend and witness the Island’s planning committee meeting where the proposed Vectis Wind Farm is due to be decided. The Island’s planning department have provided the councillors with a recommendation for refusal.
Should the council say yes to the proposed development, Infinergy estimates the scheme would satisfy the electrical demands of up to 6,400 local homes. This would account for around 11% of the Island’s households each year*.
Herb Lindlahr, project manager for the proposal said: “The Isle of Wight has ambitions to be energy independent using only sustainable technology, these ambitions can only be achieved with a range of renewable energy sources working together. We believe the proposed Vectis Wind Farm is the one opportunity to prove to the rest of the world how serious the Isle of Wight is about going green.”
Herb concluded: “As all the various Isle of Wight polls demonstrate and number of letters sent into the council prove, the mass majority of Islanders are in favour of the scheme. With this in mind it pushes us [Infinergy] to ensure we deliver a wind farm to the highest standard possible for the Island.”
