Two More Charged In Church Arson & Theft Investigation

Isle of Wight Police have confirmed two more people were charged this week after an investigation into reports of arson and theft at a church in Carisbrooke.

Officers were called to St Mary’s the Virgin Church in Carisbrooke near Newport at 5.30pm on Sunday, November 27, 2011.

Matthew Patrick Butler, aged 28, of Prospect Road, Newport, Isle of Wight, was charged with handling stolen goods, namely a crucifix belonging to the church.

A 15-year-old boy from Newport, Isle of Wight, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with the theft of a cross from the church.

They were both bailed to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on January 17, 2012.
