Town Centre Toilets Flush Ahead Of Schedule
Jul 2nd, 2009 | By Simon Butler | Isle of Wight News From The Island PulseAn £80,000 refurbishment of a central Isle of Wight public convenience has been completed a week ahead of schedule.
The new-look toilets in Newport’s South Street were re-opened to the public on Tuesday 23rd June following extensive renovation work.
The facility has been given a complete makeover with new tiles, cubicles and flooring among the new features. Touch button sanitation equipment and motion-sensor lighting have also been installed.
The refurbishment is the latest facility to be improved as part of an Isle of Wight Council project to upgrade existing toilet facilities across the Island.
The council has recently opened award winning ‘eco loos’ in Yaverland and Brading as well as new conveniences in Wootton and Cowes over the last two years. Construction work on new facilities at Esplanade Gardens, Shanklin, will begin in the winter, together with a major refurbishment of the toilets at Eastern Esplanade, Ryde.
