Shanklin Rotary Launch Dragons Gold
Feb 1st, 2010 | By Amanda Johnson | Isle of Wight News From The Island PulseThanks to the help of Rotarians, Friends of Rotary and the Inner Wheel the Shanklin Rotary Shop managed to beat the record for last years sale and ended on a high collecting in excess of £41,000.
Shanklin Rotary Club has set aside £25,000 raised from its Charity Shop to be spent on a charity project in the area. Bids are invited from suitable organisations to compete for the Dragons’ Gold, by 23rd April 2010.
The Rotary Club has an open mind about the type of project that it wishes to support. The project should predominantly benefit the people of Shanklin and the immediate surrounding area but the project might be to help support some disadvantaged group or to assist some section of the community that is currently missed by other systems.
It might be a project to help the young or the old or some cross section of the community. The Rotary Club is looking for your ideas and wants to see how the money that has been collected over recent years can be used most effectively within the local community.
“This is a really exciting opportunity for organisations in Shanklin” said Alan Parker, President of the Rotary Club.
“We are looking for bright and exciting ideas of how the money, that has been raised within the Shanklin community, can be used to benefit a group within this area. We are holding a competition with the final decision being made by the club after presentations from the rival bidders – just like in the Dragons’ Den television programme. The winners will get the Dragons’ Gold!”
Those wishing to find out more, or to make a bid, should make contact with Rotarian Jim Petrie (on jimpetrieiow@aol.com) who will provide them with a set of rules and details of the timetable and Stage 1 bidding process. An information pack can be downloaded from www.shanklinrotary.or.uk. Preliminary bids have to be submitted by midday Friday 23rd April, 2010.
