Saddling Up For Autism

Cyclists braved wind and rain on Sunday 2nd May, when they Saddled Up For Autism and took part in the 26th Isle of Wight Randonee, to raise money for The National Autistic Society (NAS), the UK’s leading charity for people affected by autism.

The team, which included Sue Lucas, Ash Sinclair, Mark Stringer and his sons Charlie Ametoy and Josh Peverley are hoping to raise over £2,000 for the Isle of Wight NAS Branch.

A word from The Randonnee Team:

Well done to all  who took part in the 26th Randonnee on Sunday 2nd May 2010. 1722 cyclists took part this year – given the weather conditions, credit to all who started!

Ash Sinclair said

“I know from personal experience how autism affects people’s lives, as my 11 year old son Harry has Asperger syndrome. The Randonee is a great way to raise both vital funds and awareness of the condition. All of our friends and family have been so supportive, it kept us all going even when the weather was against us! I’d also like to thank Jason from TAV cycles for the loan of a bike.”

Last year Sue and Ash managed to raise a staggering £2399.85 for the branch, particularly down to the generosity from friends at the Foreign Legion Association of Great Britain. With the Association’s help again this year, the team hope to have raised even more money for the cause.

Isle of Wight NAS Branch Officer, Louise Foley said

“Autism is a serious, lifelong and disabling condition. Without the right support it can have a profound effect on individuals.  By taking part in this bike ride challenge Sue, Ash, Mark, Charlie and Josh are helping the National Autistic Society to continue to provide that support.”

The NAS relies on the support of its members and donors to continue its vital work for people with autism. To become a member, make a donation or to find out more about the work of the NAS, visit the NAS website www.autism.org.uk
