An Isle of Wight children’s centre in Ryde has been given the best mark possible by Ofsted following a recent inspection.
Ryde SureStart Children’s Centre has been given a Grade 1 Outstanding after a visit earlier in February.
The Children’s Society works in partnership with IW Council to run the centre on a daily basis after being commissioned by the local authority in April 2010.
The report described Ryde Surestart Children’s Centre as giving families excellent support while helping to improve the lives and outcomes for children.
Partnership working was highlighted as being excellent, while inspectors found the centre is also demonstrating an outstanding capacity to sustain improvement.
Children and parents with special educational needs are also well supported, with particular praise for efforts to include them in all the centre’s activities.
Dawn Cousins, IW Council Cabinet member responsible for children services said “Last year, three specialist organisations were commissioned to work with the council and run our eight children’s centres to improve the quality of life for children and their families.
“This excellent Ofsted report for Ryde is, I am sure, the first of many for our centres and is something to be proud of.
“I offer my congratulations to everyone involved at Ryde Children’s Centre for this news.”
Penny Nicholls, Director of Children and Young People from The Children’s Society said “We are delighted at the outcome of the Ofsted report. The centre has established services to meet the needs of the wider community from Ryde through to Bembridge.
“Participation is key to all the work that we do and we are very please that this has been recognised. Many congratulations to all the staff at the centre.”
