Ryde Conveniences Re-Opened

Lind Street toilets in Ryde have been re-opened by the Isle of Wight Council.

The block was closed about two and a half years ago as part of a deal to hand Ryde Theatre – to which the toilets are joined – over to a local music college.

That deal never materialised and, having taken advice as part of the re-marketing exercise, the council has agreed to re-open the toilets to the public.

John Metcalfe, Isle of Wight Council deputy director of economy and environment, said: “We are pleased to say that after being deep cleansed, the toilets are open for what should be a busy bank holiday in the town.

“We will discuss the future of the toilets with any prospective purchaser of the theatre and are confident that they will remain open in the long term.

“We hope that the steps we have taken to bring these toilets back into use will be welcomed.”
