Royal Visit For Island Businesses During Cowes Week

The Duke of Edinburgh carried out a variety of engagements on the Isle of Wight this week, during the annual Cowes Week sailing regatta.

Engagements in Newport, included a visit to The County Club in St James’ Square and a tour of AJ Wells and Sons.

On Monday morning, The Duke of Edinburgh met members of the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce, Tourism and Industry and Young Chamber at The County Club in St James’ Square.  On his departure, he took the opportunity to view the Chamber’s mobile health unit and met with NHS nurses who operate the outreach business service.

His Royal Highness then visited AJ Wells and Sons who manufacture Charnwood stoves and vitreous enamel signage. The company are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year.

As Admiral and member of the Royal Yacht Squadron, The Duke of Edinburgh then returned to Cowes to spend some time at the famous sailing regatta.

On Wednesday, following his return to the Queen at Balmoral, The Duke of Edinburgh was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as a precautionary measure due to a recurrence of a bladder infection. 

A statement on The Duke of Edinburgh’s health , yesterday, 16th August 2012. Issued by the Deputy Press Secretary to The Queen:

“The Duke of Edinburgh is responding well to treatment. It is unclear when he will be discharged, but he is likely to remain in hospital for a few more days.”

The Duke of Edinburgh has been discharged from Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
