Return To Sport & Sport4Kids Courses

Bookings are now being taken in the Isle of Wight Council’s latest courses under its popular ‘Return to Sport’ and ‘Sport4Kids’ schemes.

Under Sport4Kids, a six week Junior Golf course will soon be getting underway for anyone aged 6 – 16. Beginning on 27th February, it costs just £10 for the whole course and it takes place at Newport Golf Club between 1430 – 1530.

The Return to Sport scheme is aimed at adults over the age of 16 and has a variety of new different sports starting in February and March.

A six-week golf course starts on the same day as the Junior Golf, also at Newport Golf Club. It takes place between 1300 – 1400 and costs £12 per person.

For those who fancy something more energetic, a six week table-tennis course begins on 2 March at the Carl Prean Table Tennis Centre at Smallbrook Stadium. It is held every Tuesday evening between 1900 – 2030 and costs £10 per person.

For the first time, the council is providing a fishing course. Again lasting six weeks, it begins on 27 February and takes place on the Kingfisher Lake in Merstone between 1200 – 1500 (excluding 13 and 27 March) and costs £12 per person.

For men only, Ventnor Cricket Club is holding an eight week course at the Isle of Wight Cricket Academy from 27 February. It costs £16 per person and is held between 1400 – 1530.

Finally, the far eastern martial art of Tai-Chi is expected to attract many people when an eight-week course, begins on 13 March. It will be held at Somerton Middle School in Cowes between the hours of 1330 – 1430 and costs £16 per person.

Return to Sport is an Isle of Wight Council Sports Unit scheme for people aged 16 and over who want to try a new sport or activity or are looking to get back into sport.

All abilities are welcome and spaces on each course must be booked in advance.
