
Lisa Baum reports: Isle of Wight ferry and transport operator Red Funnel, has recently been awarded the prestigious ISO 9000 registration for ship management operations.
In addition to this the company has also recently been awarded Gold Medal Award status by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), for the eighth year consecutive year.
The RoSPA award is given to companies that employ good health and safety practices to help keep accidents and ill-health at work to a minimum.
The company has showed its commitment to quality and safe practices by implementing a new safety and quality management system in order to obtain the ISO certificate, which is given following rigorous audits and reviews carried out by the MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) Quality Assurance Branch.
Red Funnel Marine Manager, Captain Mark Thomson said:
“Quality and safety has always been the primary objective for Red Funnel and we’ve always been proud of the recognition that RoSPA has given us over the past eight years.
To build on this success we undertook a total review of how we handle safety management within the ship management part of our business. Our next step is working towards ISO 14001, for international recognition for environmentally responsible ship management”.
Red Funnel Managing Director, Tom Docherty added:

Red Funnel’s ship management operations will continue to undergo surveillance audits in order to ensure that the quality standards are upheld by the operation.
