Isle of Wight Police are now in a position to name the two people killed in Tuesday’s Wootton collision.

Danny Hayward, 20, from Cross Lane in Newport was riding his white Yamaha R6 motorcycle along Lushington Hill when he was in collision with a light blue Toyota Rav4 4×4, driven by Leon Richards, 46, from Wootton Bridge, Ryde.

Mr Hayward was pronounced dead at the scene, while Mr Richards died six hours later at St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.

The pillion passenger on the motorcycle, an 18-year-old man from Newport, sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment before being discharged yesterday.

Police are still appealing for any witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw either vehicle just prior to it, to come forward.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sergeant Dave Sanderson at Shanklin police station on 101, quoting Operation Beckley.
