Police Investigate Male Sexual Assault

Detectives on the Isle of Wight are  investigating an alleged sexual assault in Newport.

Police officers were called shortly before 4.00am this morning (Friday, December 4th, 2009).

Detective Sergeant Gary Lyons of Isle of Wight CID said: 

“It’s alleged a young man was sexually assaulted by another man in Newport town centre. The victim had spent time with a group of men and women he’d met in Yates’s bar in Newport High Street on Thursday night.

“The exact circumstances, and motive for the alleged assault, are not clear at this time. Enquiries are continuing to trace a possible suspect. 

Scenes of crime officers completed a forensic examination in Newport High Street this morning. Detectives would like to hear from anyone with information who was in or near Yates’s bar during Thursday night and the early hours of this morning.”
