Earlier this week The Argus reported, two drunken fancy dress Pirates, sporting black beards, long curly wigs, waistcoats and tricorn hats ran into trouble after heading out of Selsey in West Sussex to “Conquer the Isle of Wight”.
Island Pulse Intro:

Selsey Lifeboat Crew were called out and came across a dinghy, which had broken down with the drunken pirates onboard, they were towed back to shore where police officers were waiting.

The two men were both arrested, but later released without charge.

Sergeant Chris Woollerton, of Sussex Police, said:

“Two males were arrested for their own safety as much as anything else. When they were deemed fit and able they were released.

“Getting drunk and getting into a boat which is ill-equipped and sailing off into the night is one of the most dangerous things they could have done.”

The Argus who first reported the pirates failed attempt, is now seeking news of the perilous pirates?

Editor Update:  Having now just discovered the full callout report from Selsey Lifeboat (below) on 31.07.07, these men were possibly early bird pirates hoping for some Bestival attention.

“Selsey inshore lifeboat “Peter Cornish” launched at 2118 to assist two drunks adrift in an inflatable dinghy off of Medmerry Beach approximately half a mile west of the Bill Point.

The lifeboat arrived on scene at 21:23. The two young men who were dressed as pirates were transferred to the lifeboat complete with weapons (a cutlass and pistols), and a bottle of Rum.

The inflatable was towed to the beach and the pirates were handed over into the custody of the Coastguards and local police.”
