Police Arrest Newport Man after Thefts from Boats.

Police have arrested a Newport man after a spate of thefts from boats in the Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, between September and October 2006. 

The Safer Neighbourhoods Team at Yarmouth police station received over a dozen reports of thefts from boats and criminal damage to watercraft.

Neighbourhood officers, together with the Cowes-based Marine Unit, mounted a surveillance operation over several weekends to monitor security at boat yards.

Property worth around £2,500 has since been recovered and returned to the owners.

A man in his 20s from Newport was arrested in connection with the incidents and bailed until January.
