Police Appeal To Trace Good Samaritan

Isle of Wight Police are trying to trace a man who is believed to have intervened in an alleged assault reported in Cowes.

A 16-year-old youth was standing at a bus stop near the junctions of Newport Road and Mill Hill Road outside Northwood Cemetery when he was approached by a middle-aged man who is alleged to have assaulted him.

The teenager was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries to his eyes, nose, and face and pain in his ribs.

Police are following up reports the suspect was dragged away from the youth by a motorist who had stopped to get out of the car he was driving when he saw the assault happening.

The identity of this motorist and his actions after the alleged assault are unknown.

The assault is reported to have taken place at a bus stop in Newport Road near the junction with Mill Hill Road outside Northwood Cemetery at approximately 10.45pm on Sunday, June 28, 2009.

Officers are appealing for the man who intervened, or any witnesses, to come forward by phoning police at Newport or Cowes Police Station.
