Carolyn Keene reports:  Isle of Wight police are appealing for witnesses to an assault on a 17-year-old man from Ventnor.

At around 7.20pm on Saturday, March 8th, the victim was riding his motorcycle along Coppins Bridge in Newport between Barton Road and the car park turn-off when he was knocked off the vehicle by a group of three youths.

He suffered a graze to his knee and was treated at St Mary’s Hospital.

The youths are described as 16 – 17-years-old and were wearing dark hooded tops.

It has since come to light that the victim had been involved in an earlier altercation with the youths while waiting at traffic lights outside the police station.

PC Paul Dixon from Newport police station said:

“After initial contact, it appears as though the youths crossed over the bridge to the pavement by the entrance to the car park where they were then able to knock the 17-year-old off his bike.

“I am hoping someone may have seen what happened or witnessed the earlier altercation between the victim and the group of youths.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Dixon at Newport police station on 0845 045 45 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Mini-Com users can call 01962 875000.
