Police Appeal As Eight More Arrested For Assault.
Jul 6th, 2008 | By Citizen Media | In: Appeal, Community, Isle of Wight, NewsPolice are renewing an appeal for witnesses, now that a further eight teenagers have been arrested and bailed by police investigating an assault on two foreign students on the Isle of Wight.
A total of ten teenagers are now on bail in relation to the assault.
At around 9.30pm on Friday, June 27th, two students from Sweden, a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, suffered cuts and bruises when they were assaulted on the number three bus from Shanklin to Ryde.
The bus stopped at Sandown where police attended.
All eight, who are from the Isle of Wight, were detained on suspicion of affray and racially aggravated assault. One 14-year-old boy and one 15-year-old girl arrested earlier in the week remain on bail until Monday, July 28th.
Four were arrested and questioned at Newport Police Station on Thursday, July 3rd.
One 16-year-old boy, two 15-year-old boys, and one 15-year-old girl were all bailed until Saturday, August 16th.
Detective Constable Bethan Haynes from Newport CID said:
“I’m continuing to appeal for anyone with information about what happened.
“This was a racially aggravated assault on a group of teenage students visiting this country. Such behaviour will not be tolerated by police.
“I would like to thank people who have contacted police since our first appeal.”
