Carolyn Keene reports: Isle of Wight Police are appealing for information after naming Joan Elsie King (pictured) as the woman who died following a two-vehicle road traffic collision between Apse Heath and Arreton.
At around 1pm on Wednesday, April 16th, Mrs King, from Whitwell, was driving over the Fighting Cocks crossroad near Apse Heath when her green Suzuki was in collision with a black Vauxhall Cavalier heading towards Newport.
She was taken to St Mary’s Hospital where she later died as a result of the serious head and internal injuries she had suffered. The road was closed for around seven hours to allow for a full investigation and recovery of the scene.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Paul Bailey at the Shanklin Roads Policing Unit quoting Operation Kintyre on 0845 045 45 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Mini-Com users can call 01962 875000.
In a statement, Mrs King’s sons, Allan and Peter, said:
“Mother will be sadly missed. She leaves two sons, a granddaughter and partner, and other family and friends. She loved her garden and enjoyed needle work and spinning. She was heavily involved in charity work including the shoe box appeal and the Shorwell jumble sale in aid of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
“Mother was Island born and bred and went to Hunnyhill School. She lived most of her life within the farming community where she made many friends. She helped milk the family herd of cows for nearly thirty years and was made and honorary member of the Livestock Society.”
