Petrol Discounts Political Power?
Jul 15th, 2008 | By Web Ferret | In: Citizen Media, Environment, Government, Lifestyle, National News, News, Satire, WritingCould the power of the petrol pumps be an important measuring stick, in the future leadership of our country? Unleaded petrol sits (nationally) at about £1.20 a litre with diesel at £1.32 or more after rises in the global cost of oil.
I too feel the pinch, as a reluctant user of my humble web ferret mobile, having my blinkers lifted by our own Eco Island ethos.
I was shaken not stirred at the impending 2p fuel tax rise due to start in the spring and happily accepted the agreement by the Chancellor to shelve the increase until October.
Now I see the Automobile Association using it’s website to poll opinion from AA membership.
“Members feel the blame clearly lies with the government for fuel prices”
“Three quarters of AA members do not think that any of the three main political parties are motorist friendly”.
As a member of the AA, advance notification of this Poll passed me by, ergo the results dictate the views of those members who knew about it and felt politically inclined to sign up online.
Could it get any worse? oh yes, the Telegraph reported recently: After finding that high petrol prices were keeping customers away, prostitutes are now now offering petrol discounts.
After this brief voyage into cyberspace, I came to the conclusion, I will let conscience be my guide.
Please Note: Having discovered the provenance of AA results as questionable, I would encourage the Island populace to once again, use the internet wisely and seek out the facts before rushing to the polls and casting any judgements.
