Overnight Shelter Opens For Homeless

Isle of Wight Snow Day Image Copyright Island PulseFollowing the recent snowfall and drop in temperature, an overnight shelter for the homeless is being opened on the Isle of Wight.

The night shelter, located at Downside Community and Learning Centre at Furrlongs in Newport, is open to anyone who would otherwise be spending the night on the street.

The overnight shelter for those unfortunate enough to be homeless and living on the streets is being opened by the Church of Victorious Life with support from the Isle of Wight Council tonight and tomorrow night.

As well as providing a bed for the night, volunteers from the church will provide free hot food and drinks along with bathing and laundry facilities.

The centre will open its doors at 7…pm tonight & tomorrow night (11 & 12 March) and stay open overnight until 8am until the cold snap is over.

Anyone wanting more information about housing support should contact the housing team based at County Hall or in an emergency out of hours, call Wightcare on (01983) 821105.
