Isle of Wight Newport News:white christmas snow
The fun little promotion by Nokia UK where Islanders voted and won a FREE  White Christmas for the Isle of Wight, graced Seaclose Park in Newport this week.

Due to there not being much advance publicity from Nokia about the event, we managed to take a few photos for our readers to enjoy. We also managed to snap a quick seasons greeting with Island MP Andrew Turner.  Oops! amateur photographer Andy just captured our MP with very fetching antlers.

For the big and little kids that were lucky enough to scoop tickets sadly Santa Claus was a no show, well this is his busiest month.

However the FREE entertainment on offer within the compact set of traditional Finnish tepees ensured there was ample time for kids young and old to play in the real snow.  A quick goggle at the Christmas stockings and decorations, we enjoyed crafting some pom-pom baubles for our christmas tree at home, with just enough time left to pick up a snack and a hot drink.

It was only through a last minute rush of votes that led to the Isle of Wight winning one of the Finnish White Christmas places read more…

  1. “Santa Anxiety was that for the Children or Parents?”

Given the timing of the event (kids still at school) the afternoon session was aimed at pre school children and if allowed to experience the white Christmas magic through their own eyes without overbearing pushy parents quoting ‘we was robbed’ chapter and verse most of the little kinder enjoyed a joyful time playing with the simple basic things that once upon a time made Christmas fun for children all over the world.

This was not advertised as a commercial venture nobody was lining pockets at the expense of parents and let’s not forget it was all done in the spirit of Christmas. Children in the poorest countries would have embraced the event for what it was a ‘freebie taste’ of a Finnish Christmas generously supplied by Nokia.

‘Santa Anxiety’ Yes Santa Claus was a no show (apart from my spying a small child eagerly dressed as he) I concur he the Santa Claus is a busy chap. Small children who believe in the myth throughout the world will always accept the excuse.

Ungrateful chants as online comments by a minority who attended this free event, clearly warms the heart to witness the gratitude this Island has for any new push that would put the Isle of Wight on the map.

Instead of knocking Nokia for providing a freebie I think Nokia should be applauded for setting foot on such an ungrateful militant isle.

Merry Christmas and thanks to one and all my grandchildren entered the spirit and enjoyed the experience.
