New Town Square For Shanklin

Nov 18th, 2009 | By Anna Price | Isle of Wight News From The Island Pulse

The link between High Street and Western Road in Shankin is to be closed to vehicles to create a new public square at a cost of £80,000.

The scheme found wide public support at a consultation event held in the town on 20th July and has the backing of Shanklin Town Council and local ward member Cllr David Pugh.

Works have already started with the town square scheduled to be completed by 11th December in time for a variety of community events during the festive period. A Christmas tree will also be sited in the new square.

Further works will then be carried out in Orchardleigh Road to create footways which will continue into January.

Businesses will remain open and accessible throughout the period of works.
