Have a go open day for parents and young people.
HTP Training, southern England’s top apprenticeship provider, is to host an open day on 7th January 2013 at its new Skills Centre in Newport. The state of the art facility, the first of its kind on the Isle of Wight, includes a commercial training kitchen, a gym and a nail training salon, providing youngsters not in employment, education or training (NEET) with full time career path courses. The new HTP Skills Centre comes at a time when youth unemployment on the island has seen 7.5% of 16 – 24 year olds sign up for job seekers allowance this year*.
Young people aged 16 – 18 can enrol for a range of new, free courses that start in January 2013 in fitness training, nail technology, chef training, childcare, health and social care and Information Technology. Upon completing the course in the summer, students can secure a job via an apprenticeship or transfer to full time vocational learning.
Rachael Fidler, Managing Director of HTP Training says: “HTP Training is dedicated to helping young people and that’s why we have invested over £250,000 to create a fantastic new Skills Centre for young people to learn in a relaxed environment. Our learners receive high quality training, specialist advice and high levels of support from our Training Consultants. We have strong links with local employers and together we work hard to help young people develop the right skills for a successful career.”
Parents and young people attending the 3pm – 7pm “Have a go” day on the 7 January will receive information, career guidance and be given the opportunity to enrol. Visitors can try out the new equipment too – budding chefs can whip up an omelette, anyone feeling creative can design nail art and gym enthusiasts can find out what it takes to be a fitness instructor.
95% of all students who complete their HTP apprenticeship remain in employment. HTP Training achieved ‘Outstanding, Grade 1′ status from Ofsted in 2008 and is now one of the 12 best training providers in the UK. The number of students who complete their apprenticeships at HTP Training has also increased year on year and today stands at an impressive 87%, which is 10% above the national average.
