Read Update: New Editor Wanted For IW Gazette

Hot off the Press, it appears, the Isle of Wight is to see another free newsheet hit the streets within the next few weeks.
Isle of Wight Gazette Logo: Another Island Newsheet for the Isle of Wight.

Quote: “The Gazette will be a modern, free, colourful tabloid weekly newspaper to lift your day.”

I gather from the ‘Gazette’ launch details contained within the June/July issue of Island Life Magazine, the Gazette is a culmination of newsworthy ideas already available on the Island, of which publisher Martin Potter lays claim to having held the vision of, for some time.

The Gazette team are initially Martin Potter and William Smith who have employed the services of former Isle of Wight County Press Editor Brian Dennis.

According to the launch article: Brian as Editor “has already recruited a small team of experienced journalists.”

In conversation with Brian Dennis, Island Pulse were recently informed the Island’s new tabloid ‘The Gazette’ was not set up, or run in direct competition with the well established Isle of Wight County Press.

The Gazette is however to be published on a Friday and available at over 150 outlets.  Although free, readers will be invited to place a donation for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice into a secure box on ‘The Gazette’ news stands.

In addition, to the Gazette, after having sold wightbay.com to Friday Ads, Martin is also reported to be launching wightfrog.com with William.  The wightfrog blogspot states:

“There has been much talk about the new island newspaper The Isle of Wight Gazette.

Well all the rumors are true. The paper which will be tabloid will be launched the late part of June early July. So watch out in a local store for its arrival.”

A final word from CK:  to Quote: The Gazette: “Taking a positive look at our beautiful Island”  I feel it’s up to the readers to decide for themselves if this new FREE tabloid is indeed a selfless altruistic venture?
