New Isle of Wight Medical Centre Opens

The doors have finally opened to a new, long awaited medical centre for the Isle of Wight.

The new medical centre provides the local community with state of the art healthcare services in a purpose-built, modern building, conveniently located in the Town Square in East Cowes.  The new centre is also home to a new pharmacy and on 19th September 2012 will see the services provided by Isle of Wight NHS Trust including podiatry, district nursing, health visiting and dentistry relocated to the new 584 sq m (17,050 sq ft) centre.

The doors have finally opened to a new, long awaited medical centre for the Isle of Wight.

Developed by MedicX in partnership with NHS Isle of Wight, the East Cowes medical centre signals the latest phase in the regeneration of the old GKN Works.  The development was supported by a number of local partners, including NHS Isle of Wight and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), to provide the local community a centralised location for local doctors and staff to provide an improved service for patients and the local community.

Nick Emery, Practice Manager, Dr Andrews & Partners GP Practice, commented: “Without the partnership with MedicX this project would not have been possible and we are delighted to have moved into the new centre, which provides fantastic facilities within a modern building. This is a provision that local people desperately need and we are pleased to be able to offer the local community an extended range of healthcare services.”

Paul Chandler, Construction Director, MedicX, said: “It has been a pleasure to work with NHS Isle of Wight, the GPs of Dr Andrews & Partners and the HCA, in delivering a new state of the art medical centre for the residents of East Cowes. We recognise the huge benefits the new healthcare facilities will bring to the local area and are confident the users of this new centre will be delighted with what has been achieved.”

Paul Flatt, HCA Senior Development Manager, added: “The medical centre marks another important step in our work to develop East Cowes as a great place to live, work and visit. The HCA is committed to the regeneration of East Cowes and has invested substantially in the delivery of infrastructure, new homes and regeneration over the past 10 years. This project is a testament to the close relationships we have with our partners.”
