Mountain Bikes Reported Stolen

Feb 8th, 2010 | By Duncan Smith | Isle of Wight News From The Island Pulse

Police are making a fresh appeal for information after the theft of a valuable mountain bike on the Isle of Wight.

Officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding two mountain bikes being removed from a garden shed at an address on Staplers Road in Newport.

Investigating officer, PC Hayley Connaught of the Isle of Wight’s Targeted Patrol Teams (TPT) said:

“One of the mountain bikes is a custom built ‘Tank’ model, which is estimated to be worth around £2,000. Police have been told this bike is very rare and there is unlikely to be a similar design on the island. The other model stolen is a ‘Giant’ mountain bike worth £500.

“Several lines of inquiry have been pursued since the bikes were reported stolen overnight on Christmas Eve but they have not been located or recovered yet. It is possible the more valuable custom bike was stolen to provide or fund a Christmas present. I would appeal for anyone to make contact with the police if they have seen this bike or have any knowledge about its whereabouts.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Hayley Connaught at Newport Police Station by phoning 101. Mini-Com users can call 01962 875000. Information can be given anonymously by calling the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111. From outside Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, call 0845 045 45 45.
