Motorists Sought After Attempted Robbery

Detectives are appealing for motorists to come forward  after a report of an attempted robbery in Seaview, Isle of Wight. 

A man in his 20s has told police he was walking home alone on Seaview Lane towards Seaview between 11.15pm and 11.25pm on Sunday, February 22.
 
He was approached by another man, wearing a balaclava, who demanded his mobile phone.
 
The man in his 20s, who was not hurt, then ran along Seaview Lane in the opposite direction to the way he had been walking, away from the man wearing a balaclava.

The suspect was described as:

  • Male
  • 5 ft 9 ins to 5 ft 10 ins tall
  • of stocky build
  • with a well spoken English accent

He was wearing:

  • A black balaclava
  • A grey sweatshirt / jumper

A dark green saloon car was seen parked in Seaview Lane near where the attempted robbery took place.  A man with a shaved head was seen sat in the driver seat of the saloon car.
 
The man in his 20s has also told police three cars drove past him on Seaview Lane shortly before the attempted robbery.
 
The third car was described as the dark green saloon car, which was later seen parked in Seaview Lane.
 
Police believe the motorists who were in the two cars seen travelling ahead of the dark green saloon car could be important witnesses to events leading up to the attempted robbery.
 
Detectives are appealing to anyone who was driving along Seaview Lane shortly after 11.00pm last Sunday to contact the police.
 
Anyone with information, or who may have seen suspicious activity in Seaview Lane last Sunday night, is asked to contact Newport CID on 0845 045 45 45, or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
