Star Attractions For Minghella Movie Marathon : Hollywood star Jude Law and Oscar winning film producer Lord Puttnam will be among the guest stars at next month’s Minghella Movie Marathon on the Isle of Wight.

They are joining Alan Rickman to celebrate the life and work of Anthony Minghella at screenings and receptions over the weekend of 13th to 15th March…

Tickets are now on sale for the Minghella Movie Marathon, which marks the first anniversary of Anthony Minghella’s death.

Many of his friends from the film industry, including Alan Rickman, are travelling to the island for the event, which takes place over the weekend of March 13th to 15th.

The event was conceived jointly by the Minghella family, Young Chamber and the British Film Institute, to raise funds for charities supporting island children – a cause very close to Anthony’s heart.

It opens with a reception at Cineworld, Newport, on the Friday evening, when Anthony’s sister Gioia and his close friend, the film celebrity Alan Rickman, introduce Truly, Madly, Deeply, which launched Anthony’s film career.

The following two days will feature movie screenings, and during the day on Saturday, Quay Arts Centre will host a free animation workshop for 9 to 13 year olds, as well as documentaries showing how some of Anthony’s best loved films were made.

A gala reception at Medina Theatre on the evening of Saturday the 14th provides an opportunity for ticket holders to mix with some of the people who worked with Anthony, either on or off screen, before a screening of the award winning The English Patient.

Other films to be shown are The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency, The Talented Mr Ripley (Saturday), Mr Wonderful, Breaking and Entering, and Cold Mountain (Sunday).

Tickets are available from the Medina Theatre box office.  Call 01983 527020, or visit the box office between 10am and 8pm on weekdays, and 9am to 12noon on Saturdays.  A limited number of ‘Stardust’ tickets are also still available from the box office, giving access to all films and a place at the gala reception, at a price of £50.
