Man Seriously Injured After Fight In Sandown
Jul 27th, 2009 | By Vincent Woods | Isle of Wight News From The Island PulseIsle of Wight detectives are appealing for witnesses and information after a 57-year-old man sustained serious head injuries after a fight in Sandown.
Officers were called to the incident near the Sands Hotel, Culver Parade, at around 11pm Saturday, July 25th.
The victim was taken by ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital then transferred to Southampton General Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Culver Way continues to be cordoned off while detectives carry out their investigations today.
Det Insp Nick Heelan, of Newport CID, said:
“The victim in this assault has been badly injured, and I am appealing to anyone who was in the Culver Parade area and may have witnessed this fight, or has any information, to please contact police.
“With this being the height of the holiday season, there are likely to have been people returning to their hotels or enjoying an evening out in Sandown at around 11pm last night.”

A 68-year-old man has been arrested following this incident and is currently in police custody.
