Medina Playing field was pictured in the pink for the annual Isle of Wight Race for Life 2009, as an estimated 1,200 women and girls along with quite a few hundred supporters (male and female) prepared for the main event.
Race for Life 2009 started as always with a warm-up egged on nicely by the Isle of Wight Radio’s very own M&M’s Martyn Bull and Michael Coombes. Martyn wore a figure hugging tutu topped off with a fetching feather boa and Michael well he understated the elegance and for the most part sported a fashionable pink headband.
The ultimate winner of the 5km race, was Julie King, from Cowes. Julie chose to run and was first past the ribbon completing the entire course in 20 minutes and 37 seconds.
However, thanks are due to all who put their best foot forward, today was another great day in the support of Cancer Research UK’s work and we all shared the fun knowing we were helping to raise vital funds at the same time.
Cancer Research UK hopes all of the 1,200 women and girls who took part will this year hit a fundraising target in excess of £58,000.
Hannah White, Isle of Wight Event Manager for Race for Life, said:
“We are absolutely thrilled that so many women accepted the invitation to Race for Life in Newport. Together, they all helped to create a fantastic atmosphere and raise crucial funds to help beat cancer.”
“Many simply walk round, chatting and having fun but they all share the wonderful spirit of sisterhood and pride on the day.”
