Kelly Sotherton & Team GB Speak of Olympic Hopes
Jul 17th, 2008 | By Citizen Media | In: Citizen Media, Events, Global News, Multimedia, News, SportWith the Olympics less then a month away we catch up with members of Team GB as they discuss their hopes for Beijing.
Among those competing are Isle of Wight born, Kelly Sotherton, Heptathlete, 100m runner Simeon Williamson and 200m runners Christian Malcolm and Marlon Devonish.
Kelly, who is originally from the Isle of Wight, but now competes for Birchfield Harriers, is one of Britain’s main hopes for track and field success in Beijing next month.
This past weekend Kelly competed in four events at the UK Championships in Birmingham but was not too concerned by some below-par performances, insisting she’s feeling fit and ready for the challenge ahead.
“I have three more competitions, with the last one at Crystal Palace were I’ll do the four-event challenge.
“There’s no need to worry about me. I’ll get on and do the job, I always do. I am confident and very fit at the moment. I just need to show it outside training.”
Kelly intends to have a break from the multi-event format after Beijing.
She told BBC Radio Solent:
“I’ll probably have a couple of years off, and then go back to the heptathlon.
“I’d love to finish in London on a heptathlon, if my body holds up.”
