Isle of Wight Youth Project Launch New Website

Jun 23rd, 2009 | By Citizen Media | Isle of Wight News From The Island Pulse

The Island youth project, setup by a small group of 20 to 30 year olds that would like to see a little more time invested in the local area with youths in mind has launched a new, user-friendly website.

The website  www.islandyouthproject.co.uk  offers readily available news, infomation, resources and interactive features to help collect the views of the younger community. Users can also read and participate in blogs and interactive communities. They have also setup a facebook group that already has over 400 members and is growing rapidly.

The projects main aim is to help collect the current thoughts amongst the youth population of the Isle of Wight in one place. Then this information can be presented to Isle of Wight council, Neighbourhood services or anyone else in control of funding that can help make a difference. They can then keep everyone updated on any progress with regular news updates via the website.

The Island Youth Project is asking youths to assist them by submitting Idea’s and filling out short questionnaires on current projects in the area. ”We look around and there is not much stimulating stuff for young people to get upto on this small island and at the moment, And we don’t see much happening to change that. Or is there?” says Sean, one of the project members.

”These days young people are ever so more being referred to as a nuisance or simply making the streets look un tidy, As if these critics were never young, Looking down at how youths express themselves through there cloths or hair styles as if were crazy. When were simply trying to be young and independent or just full out original.” he said.

The the youth project members have all grown up on the island. and are completely independent of any council or government run groups, committee’s etc. They are independent and impartial and want the island young voices to unite and be heard with open ears. As a rule, They will supply the islands youth council with all Idea’s submitted and the results on a regular basis.

Any schemes they supply data to or work with in anyway will be given a place on the site where regular updates, Which will be posted to keep all progress as transparent as possible. This is to go as far as to naming and shaming any organisations which claims to have youth values yet ignore your views or data presented to them when making decision which affect the younger community.

They are also accepting offers of support from anyone who feels they can some how help those who are trying to make a difference on the island. This may be in the form of time for a community or youth group, or maybe a bit of land or a hall that can be used for a local youth charities, or maybe Donations of old equipment which may come in handy for youth clubs etc.

The Island youth project is not personally asking for help, they will simply make the information available to those who are need of aid for the cause. We will network and provide an opportunity to bring people together  who can help each other.
