Isle of Wight Young Poets Competition For School & College Students

Calling all young poets, the Poetry Society Stanza, Isle of Wight have launched a poetry competition for school students on the suggested themes of ‘War and Conflict in the 21st Century’ and of ‘Global Climate Change’.

The poetry competition is free to enter, open to any Island resident aged between 13-19 who can submit up to 4 poems on either of the competition themes. 1st Prize £50, 2nd Prize £30 and 3rd Prize £20.

The winner of the Isle of Wight Stanza Young Poet’s Prize will be judged by Mario Petrucci a poet of international renown.

Mario will read his own poems, announce the prize winners and invite them to read their poems during a poetry evening on 23rd March.

Mario Petrucci: A Poetry Evening With A Difference… Isle of Wight Stanza will be hosting an evening of Mario Petrucci’s poetry at 7pm at Quay Arts, Newport, IoW, open to all (tickets £10 for adults and £5 for students from Quay Arts 01983 822490).

Mario Petrucci: The only poet to have had a residency at the Imperial War Museum, his subject matter is wide-ranging, drawing on science, climate change, and the devastation of war to “inflict… shock not just to the senses but to the conscience, to the soul”
