National Veterans Day is marked on the Isle of Wight, on Friday, with an outdoor service (weather permitting) at Northwood House in Cowes.

Hundreds of war veterans living on the Isle of Wight, are expected to take part in a day of celebration to respect their careers and remember their colleagues.

The Territorial Army have a display tent at Northwood House and the service will be followed by refreshments.

Isle of Wight Council Chairman Arthur Taylor said:

“It is an honour for the Council and myself in my role as Chairman to honour the hundreds of war veterans who will be attending.

Many fought for the freedom we take for granted today, and by celebrating Veterans Day, it gives us a chance to show how much we appreciate their bravery and loyalty to their country.”

The outdoor service will take place at 4pm, if the weather is wet the service will be held inside St Mary’s Church. Members of the public are welcome to attend, although there will be limited seating.
