Carolyn Keene reports:   Due to the popular demand of so many ladies wanting to take part in the Isle of Wight Walking Festival Speed Dating walk that will be taking place on Sunday 4th May 2008.  Men now only need apply as ladies are being put on a waiting list as the organisers need more men!

The speed-dating event is one of the cornerstones of the annual event of which in five years has so far produced no fewer than three actual weddings.

But this year, there’s a problem. Only one in three of the applicants so far is male.

Fair enough, this means that those fellas are gonna get a lot of attention, but the organisers would far rather broaden the field, so to speak, so they’re on a recruitment drive to get more chaps who want to find love in their walking boots.

Organiser Elaine Cesar said:

“It’s very strange, but because this has been such a popular and successful event so far, I’ve got no hestitation in jumping up on a hilltop and shouting, ‘we need more men!’

“Why stop at three weddings? This is a fantastically fun event, so the more the merrier.”

The walk takes place on Sunday, May 4th.  Singles are paired up by numbers and start walking, then when the whistle blows, Bloke #1 drops to the back of the line and the other fellas all move up one. Simple, huh?

At the end of the walk, the organisers check everyone’s notes and see if there were any mutual expressions of interest. And love blossoms, with the help of all that staggering scenery - the clifftops, the beaches, the Needles, the yachts, that south coast sunshine…

Anyway, if you’re a bloke and you’re interested, click  HERE: and open the registration form.

Sorry ladies - your applications have now closed as all the places were filled a while ago!

The festival, one of the country’s biggest, runs May 3rd to May 18th, in association with Ordnance Survey.
