Isle of Wight Revision In Lunchtime Ferry Service.
May 16th, 2008 | By Carolyn Keene | Isle of Wight News From The Island PulseRed Funnel will be reducing the number of midday crossing from Southampton to West Cowes from Monday May 19th.
The ferry company blames soaring fuel costs for its decision to cut four crossings a day from its timetable.
Managing director Tom Docherty said:
“This is not a decision we have taken lightly but unfortunately it is not possible to absorb the soaring cost of fuel. Rather than increase fares at this stage we believe reducing the service to hourly over the quieter lunchtime.”
The 11.45am and 12.45pm departures from Southampton and the 12.15pm and 1.15pm crossings from West Cowes will be stopped.
From Southampton weekday departures will be every 30 minutes until 11.15am, then 12.15pm, 1.15pm and every 30 minutes thereafter.
From West Cowes weekday crossings will be every 30 minutes until 11.45am, then 12.45pm, 1.45pm and every 30 minutes thereafter. The revised weekday timetable will offer up to 32 trips a day in each direction.
The service at weekends will remain unchanged with daytime departures every 30 minutes.
