Isle of Wight Radio Its All About The Island
Mar 25th, 2009 | By Vincent Woods | Isle of Wight News From The Island PulseFor the first time in over a decade, every Isle of Wight Radio programme now originates from the Isle of Wight.
As part of the new local sound of Isle of Wight Radio, the station has sourced fresh new Isle of Wight talent to add new late night programming from 7pm until midnight. The local line up of Heather McCallum, Omar and Simon Clark will give listeners more local information, chat and great music through the evening and into the night.
This new team of local presenters joins the station’s other ‘new recruit’ Stuart McGinley. Award-winning Stuart rejoins Isle of Wight Radio after an 8-year break. Previously, he attracted the biggest audience the station has ever seen. Stuart’s unique mix of fun and chat, combined with his great experience and love of the Island, completes the daytime line-up. After winning the Nations and Regions radio award, Stuart is now on course to share the stage with the best radio talent in the country at this year’s Sony Radio Awards.
Stuart said, “It’s great to be back at Isle of Wight Radio, it really feels like home. It’s great to work with such an experienced and professional team of broadcasters who really care about the Island.”
“I have only been back a week and already I am amazed at the volume of calls we get daily from listeners. I’m having a ball,” Stuart added.
Programme Controller and Breakfast Show Presenter Paul Topping said, “It is a really exciting time for Isle of Wight Radio. We are making the station much more fun and local to listen to during the day, and the audience reaction has been immense. We are putting local broadcasters back on the station and have already extended our local programming by over 34 hours a week.”
“While other stations are cutting back using more national network programming we are committing to a more local sound. We are lucky enough to have such a great wealth of local talent on the Isle of Wight and I am going to ensure it does not go to waste.”
“Our new presenters are first class; all have experience in broadcasting, all are local and will add a new dimension to the station,” Paul said.
