May 14th, 2008 | By Citizen Media | Isle of Wight News From The Island Pulse

Police are appealing for information following the discovery of a mans body at Whale Chine on the Isle of Wight.

Officers were called out at around 10.50am, Wednesday, April 30th to reports of an abandoned grey rucksack found on top of the cliff.

The body was discovered beneath the cliff following a search of the area. It is believed to be that of a man in his 40s from the Sandown area. The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

Detective Sergeant Jamie Wilkinson from Newport CID said:

I’m appealing for anyone with information about what might have happened to this man to contact me.

From our initial inquiries, we understand the last known contact with this man was on Saturday night, so its possible his body has been there since the weekend.

I’m particularly keen to hear from anyone whos been in the area of Whale Chine since the weekend, maybe out walking their dog or going for a stroll along the cliff. Perhaps you spotted the rucksack but didn’t think much of it at the time.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DS Wilkinson at Newport CID on 0845 045 45 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Mini-Com users can call 01962 875000.
