The postal strike has extended the deadline for nominations in this years Best Rural Retailer Competition. The competition is a celebration of the importance rural shops have on small communities and is supported by Isle of Wight MP Andrew Turner.
The nomination phase of the Countryside Alliance’s third annual Best Rural Retailer Competition was to close on the 6th October but has now been extended to MONDAY 15TH OCTOBER.
Mr Turner, a keen advocate of food being sold as close as possible to where it is produced is urging people to value their rural shops on the Island and nominate them in this Best Rural Retailer Competition 2007 and said:
“The role of rural shops in the communities they serve cannot be over-emphasised, they help to keep them alive, as do churches, vibrant schools and other essential amenities.â€
Once the competition closes on MONDAY 15TH OCTOBER shortlisting and regional judging will then place, they will announce regional winners in December. Regional winners will then go forward to a national final which will culminate in a reception at the House of Lords in February 2008.
