Isle of Wight Grand National 2008Carolyn Keene reports: According to the Isle of Wight Grand National Scurry Website. this event has now been postponed until Sunday 13th April 2008:

While record crowds gathered at Aintree for the running of the world greatest steeplechase, we look forward to equal status as our very own Isle of Wight Grand National takes place on Sunday 6th April 2008. (Event now postponed) 

The Isle of Wight Grand National Ashey Scurry is five class events for riders and horses of all ages, breeds and experience and offers a great day out for all the family.

1. 12 noon PUFFING BILLY STAKES
Open to ponies 14.00 hh and under – riders 15 yrs and under on day of event. Two laps over a course of fences approximately 2’ height The I W Steam Railway Trophy to the winner. The Ruth Daniell Memorial Cup to winner of younger division. Sponsored by ISLAND WEBSERVICES (Safety limit applies. Will be divided by age if sufficient entries)

2. 12.40 pm approximately- JUNIOR FUN STAKES
Fences approximately 2’6”/2’9”. Open to riders 17 and under on day of event. The Fairfields Farm Riding Stables Cup to the winner. A Shield to be awarded the first Registered Native Pony (state registration number on entry form). Sponsored by www.bembridge.com (Safety limit applies).

3 1.20 pm ASHEY MAIDEN STAKES
Fences approximately 2’6”/2’9”. The Honour Bound Cup to the winner. The Trumor Feeds Trophy to the highest placed pony 14.2 and under. Open to horses/ponies not to have been placed 1st at the Scurry. Sponsored by H Y DUKE & SONS OF DORCHESTER (Safety limit applies).

4 2.00 pm F H WINTER ASHEY SCURRY
The Claire Hicks Memorial Cup to the winner. Fences approximately 2’6”/2’ 9”.  Sponsored by F H WINTER AND SONS LTD (Safety limit applies.)

5. 2-30 pm approximately CREASEY BILES AND KING ISLE OF WIGHT GRAND NATIONAL
Open to riders 16 and over on date of event. Two laps of the Grand National course. The Blackgang Chine Cup to the winner.  Sponsored by CREASEY BILES AND KING

To get there from the Fishbourne ferry, turn left onto the A3054 towards Ryde. Take the first turning on the right down Pellhurst Road. At the end of Pellhurst Road turn right into Upton Road. At Upton Cross mini roundabout turn left into Carter’s Road. At the end of Carter’s Road turn right at the roundabout. Keep on that road for 1½ miles. West Ashey Farm is on the right.
