Isle of Wight Focus On Worldwide Photo Walk

:

The initiative of a local islandwide photography club will gain worldwide focus for the Isle of Wight when they step out in October for a Worldwide Photo Walk.

Update Friday 30th September: The photo walk is almost filled to capacity (50) only 7 spaces remain. To participate in this free event you must sign up online click here before 7pm today.

There is at time of publishing 683 walks and over 10,100 photographers presently registered to take part from across the World.

This first Isle of Wight Photo Walk is unique, there are only 50 free places up for grabs which are currently being snapped up in the online registration area.  The event is open to everyone on the Isle of Wight and its a great chance to meet other local photographers, and find out what interests them.

Founder of the Isle of Wight Digital Imaging Group (IWDIG) , Professional Photographer and Teacher Gary Early was selected due to his qualifications by Worldwide Photo Walk organisers to lead the Isle of Wight Photo Walk.  Gary Early said:

“As far as we know the Island has never held such an event before and one condition that will appeal to most photographers the event is free!”

Photo Walks such as this are infectious, because when you get that many creative people together, who all have a love of photography in common, you can’t help but have a great time.

Starting and finishing at Dimbola Lodge Photographic Museum & Galleries , Freshwater 1st October 2011 at 1pm. Refreshments and requisite chimping will mean you should set aside at least 2 hours 30 mins for the walk and related activities.

All photographers especially non photography club members are encouraged to come along.

Although an open invitation, interested photographers cannot just turn up on the day.  Places are limited to 50 and you must register online before the 1st October to take part.”

The Isle of Wight Photo Walk is officially part of the Annual Worldwide Photo Walk™ which was started by Scott Kelby. Kelby is known to photographers worldwide as Editor and Publisher of Photoshop User Magazine, President National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) and author of numerous Photoshop training DVDs and online courses.

In hundreds of places all around the world between 1st-2nd October 2011, photographers will be attending officially organised walks during which they’ll take photos which can then be entered into a global contest to find the best image.

Images can be captured by any image making device; mobile phone, point and shoot compact camera or DSLR. Whoever puts the best photo in from the Isle of Wight Walk will get a prize.

Whilst you do not have to enter the competition, for those that do, if they submit one of their images taken on the Walk, to the Official Local Walk Leader, the winner will receive a copy of Scott Kelby’s Light It, Shoot It, Retouch It Book.

In essence this will be a social photography event where photographers get together to walk around, shoot photos, and generally have fun with other photographers. The aim to practice and improve one’s own photography skills, as well having some gentle exercise.
