Isle Of Wight Dinosaur Fossil Roadshow

Staff at Isle of Wight Council’s Dinosaur Isle Museum in Sandown will be bringing the excitement of fossil hunting to the audience at a major stage show.

The popular children’s books and TV shows ‘Harry and his Bucket Full of Dinosaurs’ have been turned into a play which is being shown across the country, with a performance at Kings Theatre in Southsea later this month.

Further enhancing Dinosaur Isle’s reputation, fossil experts from the museum will set up an exhibition at the theatre, showing real fossils and a map of what the Isle of Wight looked like in pre-historic times.

They will also give a presentation to the children and answer any questions. They can also bring along any finds they have and get them identified.

The fossils that will be shown were all found on the Island, which is well known to be Europe’s capital for fossils. Three species of dinosaur identified on the Isle of Wight have never been found anywhere else in the world with one being an early relative of Tyrannosaurs Rex.

Dinosaur Isle regularly takes children and school parties on fossil explorations and whatever fossils the children find, they get to keep. The museum has one of the most extensive collection of dinosaur remains in Britain.

The play in Southsea is based on the popular stories of Harry and his bucket, that has six toy dinosaurs in. By jumping into his bucket, Harry transports himself and all the boys and girls into Dino World, where his six dinosaur toys become full-sized playmates. Its based on the bestselling children’s book and top rated television show.

The play is being held on Monday 27th October.
