Isle of Wight Chief Executive :Joe Blogs: Joe Duckworth has resigned.Joe Blog’s days are numbered on the Isle of Wight.  The IW Council Chief Executive Joe Duckworth has resigned and is expected to leave in the summer to take up the same role in the London Borough of Newham.

Joe Duckworth,said:

“I have found my time at the Isle of Wight rewarding and exciting.  When I arrived, it rapidly became clear the Island was a place with huge potential.

“As with any organisation needing to deliver rapid improvements it was vital that we focused on a clear direction and vision for how we could progress.

“I am immensely proud that I can leave the Island and the council having played my part in developing the exciting Eco Island vision. I have no doubt the Island public service organisations can work together to deliver huge improvements to the Island and shall be keeping an interested eye on developments.”

IW Council leader Cllr David Pugh pledged the transition to a new chief executive would not disrupt the council’s aims and objectives, not least its ambitious plans to transform itself into Eco Island a energy self-sufficient island by 2020.

Leader David Pugh said:

“Joe leaves a tremendous platform from which we can continue to improve the services the council provides across the Island.

“One of the legacies he leaves behind is a very talented, strong and committed team of directors. Each of these has played, and will continue to play, a key role in improving these services and in developing the Eco Island agenda.

“Eco Island has built up a tremendous momentum and that will not be lost. Indeed the prospect of helping to lead such a pioneering agenda on makes the job of chief executive here particularly attractive.”

Until a replacement for Mr Duckworth is found, David Burbage who is currently director of finance at the authority, will be interim chief executive.

Cllr Pugh said:

“David is himself a former chief executive and has a wealth of experience. He will ensure we have a smooth transition to a new chief officer and maintain the steady improvement we are making across the council.

  3. We do hope that the transition to a new permanent Chief Executive will go smoothly. Too often ‘new brooms’ move goal-posts, and interim managers allow innovations to stall.

We had been hoping that Joe would help us to push through a revitalisation of the CarShare scheme the Island desperately needs. Let’s hope he could see that completed before he leaves.

Joe had been very interested in our proposals. It would be such a shame…
