Smoke-Ban Advice from Isle of Wight Council.

Help is available for businesses and smokers ahead of the smoking ban that comes into force from July 1st.

After that date, it will be an offence not only to smoke in public buildings and workplaces, but also, for those in charge of such premises, to allow or permit people to light up.

The IW Council’s Environmental Health Department will be responsible for enforcing the ban and the authority is keen to provide as much information to business owners or managers before the regulation schemes in.

Working with the IW NHS trust, the council is also offering help to those looking to kick the habit.

To make businesses aware of the implications of the ban, a number of seminars have been arranged across the Island by environmental health officers alongside the IW Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Healthy Business Partnership’.

Each event will include a short presentation on the Smoke-Free Legislation, after which delegates will have the opportunity to ask questions.

“If you want to know the implications of these restrictions on Smoking in both workplaces and public enclosed spaces, and how these may affect your business, this will be your opportunity to find out,” said Cllr Barry Abraham, IW Council cabinet member for Safer Communities.

“The laws are rigorous but they are easy to understand and comply with.

“All the information will be made available so people who have to respond to the new laws know exactly what is expected of them.”

If you are unable to attend one of these events, further information on smoke free legislation can be found on the Council’s website http://www.iwight.com/ or telephone Environmental Health (01983) 823000.
